Zelim has a vision to make unmanned rescue vessels the norm offshore. We are supported by some of the leading brands, funders and grant giving bodies in the Offshore Renewable Industry.
During the next 12 months we will launch the first in class remotely operated unmanned fast rescue vessel. The vessel will employ our AI casualty detection solution. The solution was trialled with the UK and US Coast Guard at a recent mass casualty exercise at Race Bank Offshore Wind Farm.

Join Zelim as a highly motivated Maritime Sales Director to help the transition from R&D company to commercial entity. The successful candidate will lead the sales and customer-facing teams, to deliver company growth through increased revenues and profitability. This is an Edinburgh-based role, but with the option to be based in another location with frequent travel to Edinburgh.
Reporting to the CEO and Board, you will ultimately be responsible for the commercial success and sales performance of the business. You will be a key member of the senior leadership team tasked with building long-term strategies and teams capable of delivering across core functions such as sales and commercial contract negotiation.
In your role as a Maritime Sales Director, you will interface with internal teams, clients, partners, suppliers and consultancies and will be expected to be an ambassador for the business during any external engagement. You will be responsible for the contractual sign-off for various commercial projects and initiatives and for providing guidance and leadership to direct reports and colleagues more widely. You will take a hands on data led approach to defining KPIs and measuring performance and business activities and communicate this through regular, high-quality reporting. You will take a hands-on approach to generating leads and closing deals whilst ensuring that all governance and safe-guards are met. As a Maritime Sales Director, you will be highly motivated to innovate and explore new value pools by constantly considering new services and propositions.
For success in this role, you will have significant hands on experience of building sales pipelines and understanding what is required to bring new products to market to ultimately build and lead a successful commercial team and business. You will have a strong track record of securing large contracts from both the private and public sector and through direct contracts and competitive tenders. You will be capable of structuring and negotiating complex commercial deals and have experience of building and managing relationships at the most senior levels. The successful candidate is expected to have significant experience in the marine industry, offshore infrastructure and services sector. Experience of working in the energy sector and large infrastructure projects for both public and private sector clients is also welcome.
Ideally, you will have experience of working in European markets and associated language skills are highly regarded.
Main responsibilities
- Support of the Business Development Director, to identify opportunities and risks to inform the strategy for creating and refine product and service developments.
- Take a hands on approach to Sales, to ensure all strategic sales objectives for the company are achieved, delivering on the agreed targets, working in close consultation with the CFO especially when it comes to controlling costs.
- In partnership with the CFO, produce internal reporting of monthly sales performance.
- In conjunction with the CTO, monitor product and service development and delivery and report against the plan.
- Support the executive board with ideas for investments, acquisitions or divestments, and become involved in the activity required to see these through.
- Ensure the continuing professional development of the Commercial team and managers.
- To research and identify key strategic partner relationships for tenders opportunities, commercial partnerships and increased profile and impact. In partnership with the CFO to identify the potential value of these opportunities and prioritise those that hold most value and impact.
- Identify and communicate threats in the external environment to products and services and review with the Directors and CFO the risk profile within the product mix to ensure there’s a spread and good management of risk.
- Develop a network of contacts, attend external influencing events, and become active within our major trade associations and representative bodies, further to develop the companies profile and standing in its markets and amongst policy influencers, in the UK and internationally.
- To lead and line manage the Sales function, taking overall accountability for the performance of the sales function by meeting and exceeding agreed key performance indicators.
- Lead Sales, create and deliver short, medium and long-term targeted sales strategy. Lead Sales functions to do with lead generation and account management, to meet and exceed sales KPIs, including agreed sales targets.
- Ensure that the CRM system is fit for purpose, constantly updated, and sales initiatives are informed by and based on the effective and accurate interpretation of the CRM data.

- Delivery of an annual costed Commercial business plan, to feed into the overall budget to deliver year-on-year growth.
